11 Healthy Skin Tips From People Who Sweat for a Living

Serena Williams SweatsIt can be hard for professional athletes to find products that work as hard (and long) as they do. They need formulas that will protect their skin from hours of sun exposure and potions that work overtime to fight off dry skin. Not to mention makeup that stands up to sweat. Luckily, these athletes and celebrity trainers have found beauty regimens that are easily incorporated into their active lifestyles. And we can all learn a thing or two from their healthy skin tips.

1. Double up on moisturizers when working out in cold climates.

Olympic figure skater Sarah Hughes tackles dry skin with a one-two punch. "I hate how ashy I look when I'm dry, so I've developed a foolproof moisturizing routine," Hughes told Shape. "First, I smooth on a body oil when I'm still damp from bathing. Then, I top it with a lotion that has a bit of sparkle in it to give my skin a glow."

2. Stock up on your favorite gym-bag products.

Celebrity fitness trainer Anna Kaiser's busy schedule requires her to travel a lot, so she recommends knowing exactly what works for your skin and keeping it on hand. "I tend to always have a large tote with me (I never know where I'm going to end up!)," Kaiser told W Magazine. Items like Simple makeup removing wipes ($5; target.com), Sisley Rose Mist ($40; sephora.com), City Lips gloss ($35; citycosmetics.com), and Essentia pH balanced water ($22 for a 12 pack; walmart.com) are always in her bag.

3. Never complete an outdoor workout without sunscreen.

Sunscreen is the most important part of Serena Williams's beauty regimen. "I never leave home without it," Williams told People. "I go with [an SPF of] 55, and I always reapply.”
4. Use a pressed powder to get rid of shine after a long workout.

From sparkly eyeshadow to bold lipsticks, gymnasts create fun makeup looks for competitions. And Olympic gymnast Gabby Douglas has the perfect trick to keep oily skin shine-free. "I keep a pressed-powder compact in my bag," Douglas told Cosmopolitan. "Sometimes my T-zone gets a little shiny, so I like to apply powder on my face for a more matte effect.”

5. Follow a three-step routine to keep your skin healthy.

Celebrity fitness trainer Jackie Warner's skin-care ritual includes three easy-to-follow steps. "I wash my face with Shiseido Ibuki Gentle Cleanser ($30; shiseido.com)," Warner explained on her blog. "I love this cleanser because it’s ultra-gentle." Next, she applies Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Collagen Booster ($48; sephora.com). And follows up with Biopelle Tensage Advanced Cream Moisturizer ($75; dermstore.com). "I have been using this moisturizer for quite some time," Warner said.
